Two New pieces in the Federation of Canadian Artists' October/November 'Icon' show at Granville Island Gallery
I will have two 'pour' pieces on display (Lions Gate 2 and Updraft) on display at the Federation of Canadian Artists Gallery located on Granville Island between October 27th and November 8th, 2015. Come on down to see them in person.
Like many artists, I enjoy producing works in threes. My most recent canvases are three works in oil that I am calling the 'musculature' series. The title is a reference to anatomy and in particular the fluid and interweaving lines of muscles bound to a skeletal frame. I wanted to apply that line aesthetic to landscape works and below are the results. I hope you like them.
Evolution of a 'pour' painting
I'm always excited to be pushing the boundaries of what is possible in this technique I use called 'pour' painting. It is an equally thrilling and satisfying way of producing painted works and I thought readers might be interested to see how the process works.
New series on the way
Butterflies and beetles are leaping off the easel with a new series of painted acrylic works on canvas.
Keep an eye out for the New Cephalopod series that I'm working on. This is a real departure from my previous works in that i'm creating highly sculptural painted works that literally leap off the canvas at the viewer. the first two pieces, 'Octavius' and 'Watch Your Step' are just having the finishing touches put on them.

***OPENING NIGHT RECEPTION***
Tuesday, January 7th 6:00pm-8:00pm
With the natural world at his doorstep, North Vancouver artist Cory Kinney finds muse in the trees, rivers and canyons near his home, while other works are inspired by his love of the ocean and sailing.
His paintings are diverse in subject matter and style, with some pieces as vibrant contemporary abstracts, though his main love is landscapes.
“I’m constantly amazed by the ease with which the natural world humbles us. For me, there's a sense of comforting claustrophobia when walking through the local woods and despite being so close to civilization, I feel as if I'm a thousand miles away. I try to capture that sense of all encompassing other-worldliness in my work. I like the idea that we can't control nature despite our best efforts and that left to her own devices, she will always close ranks and be a place of wonder.” - Cory
